In with the New

Another day another dollar...well a little short of a dollar now thanks to Obama raising taxes. But that's for the birds! Hope everyone had a wonderful New Years! Husband and I enjoyed it at the ranch with a fun group! We ate dinner, played games, danced, and Husband put on another great firework display!

Ringing in 2013 as Mr & Mrs for the first time!!

New Year's Day consisted of the annual writing of our New Years resolutions and going over last years! I made 3.5 of 4! This year I hope I can go 5 for 5.... But I may be setting myself up for failure being I cannot remember my 5th resolution and it is already sealed and in the safe. Damn. And then Christmas decor came down ad naps were had once the guest went on their way! Oh and black eyed peas were consumed, duh!

Here are my resolutions, I added a fifth one on my own today. Maybe I connected with my inner self and it is the same, but probably not. Alas, my four resolutions plus a new one!:)

I have these two little cuties in my life that guarantee no matter what 2013 will be a great one! and of course, a wonderful husband!

First Christmas as a Mrs.

Well I am finally caught up on rest after a wonderful Christmas spent with family! Husband and I hosted Christmas this year at our place! It was a big year - our first one as Mr. and Mrs. , first one in our new home (well we have been in our home almost a year now, but first christmas), and our first year to host all the family! 

I would say the over all weekend was a success! We had a blast getting to see everyone! I must admit, Christmas felt weird being on a Tuesday though and everyone having to head back home on Christmas day. :( We sure did have a busy weekend, or 4 days I should say! I rode Missy Mae, we went on walks,  played a ton of kinect, ate well, blessed with gifts and laughs, rode 4-wheelers, Took family photos, and drove around looking at deer! 

Husband got one of his Christmas gifts early, Popcorn, a mini donkey! He was so excited and has been anticipating him since he found out he was getting him in November. Popcorn is 4 months old. My parents brought him down Saturday in the back of the truck in a crate! They said they got pictures taken at the gas station and were even offered money for him! Luckily, they did not take the offer and made it to the ranch with him ;) He is so funny! Loves people and doesn't mind the dogs, minus Sampson. It must be his ears, or his bark!

Election Day & Weekend {Wrap-Up}

This weekend was pretty low key for me. I drank extremely nice wine, ate good food, watched great football, rode Missy, DIY Projects and enjoyed nice conversation.

You may or may not know this past weekend was opening weekend. I live in hunting territory. Ranches line every road I drive to get to my house from work, and that is a 65 mile commute, y'all!  So needless to say our little town was popping this weekend. Trucks, trailers, camo, coolers, 6 wheelers, everywhere! 

My hubby, of course, is in this business. It is his job. The company he works for brings clients and friends out to the ranch and we wine and dine them for the weekend! This group was a special group. Have been friends forever and have not missed opening weekend in something like 35 years! 

Saturday I watched the Aggies BTHO Mississippi State! Whoop!!!

Sunday we took the group back to the plane, and did a few errands which included treats and toys for the pups! Then enjoyed Sunday Football, lunch, and a bloody mary!!

Did that really just happen?

So last Thursday was quite the eventfull day for this family, although living on the ranch and if you read this blog it always seems like something is going on doesn't it? Water goes out, Electricity out,  horse cuts leg, baby calf raising, cow chasing, parachute man landing...all kinds of things..well anyways! Last Thursday Josh had to come to town for work so we decided to run a few erands and grab a bite to eat and drinks in town. While at dinner, it began to rain, and the Direct TV went out for a bit, when it came back on the weather showed red and yellow where we live. We said "Oh, maybe we are getting some rain" It literally always misses us (supposedly living on the top of the hill and elevated has something to do with it or something like that.).  

We come home to this....

A tornando literally went through the main compound and hit the lodge, hunters cabin, and one of our barns. It went RIGHT BY my horse. We called our neighbors and asked if they had a tornando and they said "No, we had some rain and light wind nothing bad" They were shocked to hear the damage we had so came over to see it all. You can literally see the trail that the tornando hit. Tree's were down, roof was missing off lodge, it blew debree everywhere, took the whole porch and roof off Cabin and flipped it over top and across the road which is about 50 ft. Went right by Coup's barn and hit the other barn and took off whole covered area and roof and threw tin everywhere. The same barn that just got 24,000 LBS of feed :/. Luckily, our house was fine and our animals were fine. Nelson was a little nervous because he is an outside dog. All is fine now, minus the mess to be cleaned up and roofs to be fixed, but all in time my friends!

My Weekend

This was my first weekend cooking at the ranch for a group and getting paiiiid. It was pretty laid back group and pretty easy meals, but I was still nervous! All went really well and everyone seemed very pleased. A bunch of old men working outside all day, I'm sure any time of food to fill the stomach is great!!

Between meals I got to enjoy my weekend with my Rock man! We started the morning I the porch reading the last book of Hunger Games! I am almost done, and am loving it!! Next series: maybe I'll hop on the 50 Shades of Grey Bandwagon

Next Rock and I went to the tank to dip our toes/paws in the water and fish a little. Weather was great and Rocky loves to swim!

Nothing but Peaceful

"Don't Drown, Turn Around"

What a week! We got rain, rain, and more rain! This is def a drastic turn around from last year and a great blessing for sure. But last week between Tuesday and Thursday we got Almost 8 inches of rain. Needless to say every dry creek bed on the ranch was flowing and we were about 2 inches from being flooded in to the ranch and not leaving- which would not have been a terrible thing! I worked Monday through Thursday this week and josh worked well...not those days. Since his job is centered around being outdoors the rain put a damper on that.

Thursday he set out to pull the neighbors truck and trailer out that had gotten stuck- good neighborly gestures! And then him and his brother headed into town to check our water crossing. It was fine when they wet to town and 45 mins later when they returned it had risen almost 3.5 feet. Yes feet. They, being the men they ate, decided to try there luck and drive across it. They did make it, but josh will tell you "my butt cheeks were puckered the whole time" haha. The water was to the top of hood. And if that wasn't enough for one day, he comes home be greeted by Sampson at his brothers house- who was left inside the house. So he heads home to check on Rocky and little boy is being good laying on the mat inside the front door. He never left or went out, but good ol' Sammy was soaked and Nelson left us two dead deer bones inside. Awesome. The highs of living on a game ranch.

This weekend was nice down time for the Nashes! We got to enjoy a nice date day and movie Friday and hung out with his dad and Paige on Saturday. I've been trying to kick a cough so it was nice to relax and lay low. I found my first point while arrowhead hunting....and then got distracted and lost it while playing with Rock. Oops.

Well today is Monday. Back to the grind of work....and workout. This is a positive. First one down for the week! More to come. Keep It Positive and Happy

5 PUPPIES...whaaat?

Josh Calls me last week and verifies that my assumptions over the last few weeks of the ranch dog Lilly being pregnant are TRUE. He called and said "we have 3 puppies..." WHAT? 3 puppies...why couldn't she have just had 1 like last time I thought to myself, mid panic. I was nervous, because she is getting really old, and quit producing milk with Nelson and didn't seem to have much milk before this litter...so to me 3 puppies was going to be tough. And for anyone who knows me, knows I am an animal lover to the max and would want to make sure these pups have milk and are okay, but bottle feeding every 2 hours is out of the question for me and we know boys wouldn't take time for that. AND we were leaving Friday before lunch for the wedding. I told myself she would have milk,and to not get it way. Let nature and her instincts take their course. Then about 3 hours later I get another call from Josh, "Well, we have 5 puppies..." ha you can only imagine the shock in my voice...and face. "5 PUPPIES? OMG IS SHE DONE" "I think so" haha I sure did hope so, and she was.

So there we have it...we have 5 new puppies at the ranch that are now 5 days old. They are so tiny and all little girls! Three black and 2 colored like Nelson! Lilly is a wonderful mom and taking great care of them! She has milk and is doing good, but after this litter we are taking her in to get her fixed. I want no more puppies! I have enough dogs! They are EACH a full time job.

If you know anyone in the market for a dog, send them our way! These little girls are going to be super smart! The mom and dad are extremely smart and Nelson is as well!

Well just wanted to share the news of the new additions to the ranch temporarily...not permanently! :)

Not through here...

Living out on the ranch we have a gate entrance! Yep, we are fancy! Don't be jealous! Well last last week this oh so wonderful gate decided to break. I push my button top open the gate to only get...

An almost half way open gate. It thought about opening all the way, then shutting, then opening, then shutting, before stopping and giving me the picture above. Hmmm....I sat there pondering how I was going to fix this. At the ranch we have no cell phone service, luckily I have a cell phone booster and could get a few bars. I called Josh, who once again is 12 hrs. away- no answer. (note: this will probably never change. I still call my dad for everything else not dealing with the ranch and I havent lived at home for 7 years!) Anyways long story short. I slightly panicked not thinking there was a way to get in, but remembered there is another gate with a code I could have gone in as well. But just had to drive down a dusty road and i had JUST cleaned my car the day before. I called Bob because the owners were coming to town the NEXT day and the gate was broke! He advised me to try and unscrew bolt and leave it open, this was important because Ramona the cook was coming out that night and needed in and drives a navigator so would be harder to fit. So after Zippy (my car, yes her name is Zippy) squeeeeezed thru at an angle that took a few 3 pt turns to accomplis the angle, we made it through!

hmm...now for this bolt thing...Where is it? .I made trip home 1st to change, go to the restroom, grab rock & then headed back to the front gate to try and find this "bolt. After some trial and error and another call to Josh I FOUND it...and the dang bolt was too tight from me to loosen with my own "non rough" hands! So I head back up to the barn to get a tool.(mind you its over a 1.5 miles to my house, main compound, and barns from front gate) I decide to be proactive and grab two tools in case one didnt fit. Go BACK to the front, and dang the luck I still cant get it. SO I text Bob, and ask him what he wants me to do. I get back to the main compound, and he ask me to unlock the other gate so she can get in later. so BACK up to the front I go, and down the DUSTY road to unlock the gate. Glad that was all sorted out, 1 hr later. HA.

Accomplishments: 1 unlocked gate that wasnt used, a still half way open gate, & A filthy car that was just cleaned, no workout or horse ridden

Gate was fixed the next day. Currently still working! :) Just hope if it breaks again it is half way so I can squeeze thru again.

Don't Lose the Herd...

So not only do we have deer and exotics at our ranch, but we also have cows! Awe sweet annoying little cows. Now I am an animal lover of all and will help any animal out! I mean I tried to bottle feed a calf on my own for 1.5 hours...which was unsuccessful because he did not take it! BUT I did get a killer work out in. He is doing fine on his own. I feed him everyday, not milk just feed. His name is Norman!

OKAY back to the story of the cows. This past weekend I went for a nice evening ride on my horse. There were four cows & Spanky (the ram who thinks he is a cow, Literally) up around our house before I left. When I return, there is water shooting out of a pipe straight up into the air. WTH? I of course go into panic mode of "Oh Snap, what the heck am I going to do? I don't know how to fix a busted pipe...Stupid cows you bust my pipe with no consideration that it is just me out here." So what do I do? RUN to the house and call Josh! Then Bob, Then Travis! I got the water turned off & was told it would either get fixed that night (well it was already 7:45pm so I doubted that) or first thing in the morning! No biggie! Down side--our house & Coup's water is all connected on the same water line so I had no water as well. Stupid Cows. Well it ended up getting fixed at some point that night because when I went to bed I had water! :) Miguel had come to the rescue, and without my knowledge of knowing he was ever there. ha.

Sunday morning rolls around and I decide to go for another ride...same 4 cows are still around. I am proactive and block the pipe so they cannot brake it again. which would be the 2nd time in 1 week. I then begin to wonder where the rest of the herd is. Hope they didn't all die? Is that possible for 14 cows to all die at the same time? oh no. So I proceed with my ride, get home and rinse off coup and feed & still no cows.

About 7 hours later I FIND THE COWS while enjoying a movie on my couch. Where'd I find them? IN MY FLOWER BED- which should really be called a rock bed. No flowers just decor. Ugh. Stupid Cows again. Have you ever tried to scare a cow, and it is like scaring a human right in front of their face, AFTER you have told them "hey, I'm about to scare you" Yep, they don't move. I resorted to tossing rocks at them, hey they were ruining my nice flower beds, and making a mess of trash, Don't Judge. I was soo aggravated with the mess they made. All I ask is STAY AWAY FROM MY HOUSE and THE WATER LINES! Is that too much for a girl to ask?

In the end, I was happy to not lose the herd, but not happy with the beating my house took in the process. AND to top it off Boss Man was coming in Tuesday, in which I found out Monday. Awesomeness. So motto until the end of the 3 months "Don't Lose the herd" I almost failed this past weekend!
